Far from the famous beaches, lively clubs and busy summer streets, the north of the island offers a quieter and more authentic way to experience Ibiza. Here, pine forests stretch down to the sea, small villages keep their traditional character and country roads lead to local markets and places that feel untouched by time.
From Can Pep Pardal, you are perfectly placed to discover this side of the island. Spend the morning exploring the narrow streets of Sant Joan, or visiting the historical church of Sant Miquel, visit one of the traditional markets, follow a country path through the countryside or head down to one of the many secluded beaches along the northern coast.
The north is also a place to simply slow down and invites you to discover the island beyond the expected.
The Church of Sant Miquel
High on the hill, in the charming village of Sant Miquel de Balansat, overlooking the port and the surrounding mountains, stands the historic Church of Sant Miquel.
Built more than three centuries ago by the local community, the church was much more than a place of worship. During the centuries when pirate raids were a constant threat along the Ibizan coast, it also served as a place of refuge. While the island’s villages and farms were being raided, local families would seek shelter inside its thick walls. Those who were less fortunate could be taken captive, carried away and sold into slavery.
Inside, the church still preserves traces of this remarkable past. Original wall paintings, uncovered only a few years ago, reveal scenes and details that offer a rare glimpse into a way of life that has long disappeared.
Standing there today, surrounded by the peaceful landscape of northern Ibiza, it is difficult to imagine the history these walls have witnessed. And that is precisely what makes Sant Miquel so special: a quiet village carrying centuries of Ibiza’s history within it.
The Villages
Away from the coast, the north of Ibiza is dotted with small villages where life still moves at a slower pace.
Sant Joan de Labritja, one of the island’s most charming villages, is surrounded by pine-covered hills, farmland and traditional whitewashed houses. Its quiet streets, local cafés and Sunday market offer a glimpse of a more authentic, unhurried Ibiza.
Nearby, villages such as Sant Llorenç de Balàfia, Santa Agnès de Corona and Sant Mateu d’Albarca are scattered among the countryside. Each has its own character, but all share the same peaceful atmosphere, traditional architecture and deep connection with the land.

Wild coastline and hidden coves
Can Pep Pardal has two comfortable bedrooms, offering space and privacy for up to four guests. Both rooms preserve the relaxed, natural character of this traditional Ibicencan home, combining simple decoration with original architectural details and a peaceful atmosphere.
Particular attention has been given to the historic Ibicencan windows reflecting the traditional character of the house. The exposed wooden beams and thick stone walls add warmth and texture.
For added comfort, the master bedroom features a private en-suite bathroom with a shower, offering greater privacy and convenience.
Traditions
In Ibiza, traditions are still very much alive. Passed down from one generation to the next and especially present in the island’s villages and local celebrations.
Discover ball pagès, the traditional Ibicencan dance, with its distinctive music, costumes and movements. During local festivals and celebrations, these dances bring communities together and offer a glimpse into an Ibiza that has remained deeply connected to its roots.
The island’s culinary traditions tell the same story. Simple, local ingredients and recipes passed down through generations are at the heart of Ibicencan cooking. Try bullit de peix, a traditional fish dish, taste the sweet orelletes or finish with a slice of flaó, the island’s traditional cheesecake made with fresh cheese and mint. Dalt Vila
Rising above the city of Ibiza, Dalt Vila is one of the island’s most remarkable places. Its ancient walls, narrow cobbled streets and whitewashed houses tell the story of the many cultures that have shaped Ibiza over the centuries.
Step through its historic gates and wander uphill through quiet streets, small squares and hidden corners until you reach the cathedral and the old castle, where spectacular views stretch across the city and the Mediterranean.
A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Dalt Vila is a place where history, architecture and the unmistakable spirit of Ibiza come together and one of the island’s essential experiences.
Sunsets
Few things belong to Ibiza quite like its sunsets. As the sun begins to disappear into the Mediterranean, the landscape takes on a different light, turning the sea, cliffs and pine forests into shades of gold.
One of the most special places to experience this is Benirràs, just a short drive from Can Pep Pardal. Surrounded by cliffs and pine trees, this beautiful northern cove is famous for its spectacular sunsets and its relaxed, bohemian atmosphere.
But you don’t always need to go anywhere. Back at Can Pep Pardal, you can watch the evening light from the garden, enjoy dinner outdoors and listen to the crickets and birds as the day slowly comes to an end.
Sometimes, the most memorable part of an Ibiza sunset is simply having nowhere else to be.
